Adding Artifacts in Coaching

Learn how artifacts work in coaching cycles and coaching logs, and how to add them.

Artifacts are files or links — a photo, a document, or a resource elsewhere on the web — that add context to coaching work. How they work depends on whether you're in a coaching cycle or a coaching log.

Coaching cycles vs. coaching logs

Coaching cycles

  • Turned on step by step. Whoever configures the cycle's steps checks Allow artifacts in that step's settings.

  • Add them in two places: on the step, or inside the coaching form.

  • See them in both places. Wherever you add an artifact, it shows up on the step and on the form.

Coaching logs

  • On automatically. There's nothing to set up.

  • Add them inside the form only. Logs don't have steps.

In both, the coach and the staff member can add artifacts (depending on who is filling out the form) and view any that have been added.

Adding artifacts on a coaching cycle step

1. Click the downward arrow next to a step to expand your view, and click Add Artifacts to open the artifact selection view. An artifact can be an uploaded file or a link to a resource elsewhere on the web.

2. To add a linked artifact, enter the URL to the resource and click Add Link.

Adding a linked artifact

To add an uploaded artifact, drag and drop a file from your computer to the designated area, or click the area to open your file browser and select a file.

3. When you're done selecting artifacts, click Add Artifacts to save them. They'll be visible to the coach and staff member of the step.

To delete an artifact you've added, click the trash icon on that artifact.

Adding attachments inside the coaching form

For both coaching cycles and coaching logs, you can also add files and links directly inside the coaching form. For step-by-step instructions, see Adding Attachments to a Form Submission.

Good to know

  • Artifacts vs. attachments: On coaching cycle steps, attachments are called artifacts. Inside forms, they're called attachments.

  • There's no set file size limit, but very large files can time out if they are too large or internet speeds aren't fast enough. If an upload keeps spinning and doesn't finish, try a smaller file. This is commonly the case with large video files. To share a video, upload it into Google Drive or Youtube and paste a link to it instead.

  • If you want attachments turned off, reach out to your KickUp CSM.
